Condition, Photos & Grading Policy
At Glass City Comics & Collectibles, we are collectors too, and we understand that condition matters. We want our customers to feel confident about what they are purchasing and happy with what arrives.
We sell comics, trading cards, magazines, action figures, collectibles, and other merchandise where condition can be subjective. This policy explains how we inspect, describe, photograph, and fulfill condition-sensitive merchandise.
Our Quality Standards
We take the condition of our merchandise seriously.
New merchandise received from distributors and wholesalers is inspected as part of our normal handling process. Items with significant or unreasonable defects are not knowingly offered or shipped as ordinary new merchandise.
We maintain high quality standards and make a reasonable effort to send merchandise that is clean, presentable, and representative of what a collector should reasonably expect from a new retail item.
Our goal is simple: we want to send you an item that we would be happy to receive ourselves.
However, collectibles are physical products. Manufacturing, printing, binding, packaging, distribution, transportation, and normal handling can result in minor imperfections even when merchandise is brand new.
Our quality inspection is a retail quality-control process. It is not professional grading or professional grading pre-screening.
Condition Assessments Are Estimates
Any condition, grade, or condition description assigned by Glass City Comics & Collectibles to a raw or otherwise ungraded item is a good-faith estimate based on our visual inspection.
Condition grading is inherently subjective. Different collectors, retailers, dealers, and professional grading companies may reasonably reach different conclusions regarding the same item.
We are not representing our condition estimates as professional grading opinions.
Terms such as NM, VF/NM, VF, FN, VG, or similar condition descriptions should therefore be understood as estimates rather than guarantees.
Unless an item has already been professionally graded and encapsulated, no condition description provided by Glass City Comics & Collectibles guarantees any specific numerical grade, designation, authentication result, or professional grading outcome.
Actual-Item Photographs
When a listing contains photographs of the actual item being sold, those photographs are an important part of the product description and should be reviewed carefully before purchasing.
Actual-item photographs allow you to evaluate visible characteristics and condition for yourself rather than relying solely upon our written condition estimate.
Your purchasing decision should be based on the item shown in the photographs together with the written listing.
A subjective disagreement with our condition estimate does not, by itself, mean that an item is materially different from what was advertised when the customer received the same item depicted and its relevant condition was reasonably visible in the listing photographs.
If you need clarification about something visible in the photographs or would like to see a particular area of an individually photographed item more closely, please contact us before purchasing.
Stock Images & New Merchandise
Some new merchandise may use publisher, manufacturer, distributor, or other stock imagery instead of photographs of the individual unit you will receive.
Unless otherwise stated, merchandise represented by a stock image is being sold as new retail merchandise received through our normal distribution or wholesale channels.
New does not mean perfect, mint, gem mint, flawless, professionally pre-screened, or guaranteed to receive any particular professional grade.
New merchandise may contain minor manufacturing, printing, binding, packaging, distribution, transportation, handling, or shelf-related imperfections.
Depending on the product, these can include minor corner or edge wear, surface imperfections, printing variations, small packaging marks, scratches or scuffs to plastic windows, small dents, creases, or similar imperfections.
These types of minor imperfections do not automatically make otherwise new merchandise used, damaged, defective, or incorrectly described.
Requests for Actual Photos
If condition or packaging is especially important to your purchase and a stock image is being used, you may contact us before ordering to ask whether photographs of an available copy can reasonably be provided.
Photo requests are handled at our discretion based on the merchandise, available inventory, staffing, and order volume.
We cannot guarantee photographs of every available copy, extensive additional photography, comparisons between multiple copies, or customer selection among numerous units.
If we provide photographs of a specific copy for your consideration, please review them before purchasing.
Multiple Copies & "Best Copy" Requests
When multiple copies of the same item are available, we will do our best to send a great-looking copy using our normal quality standards.
However, we do not provide professional grading pre-screening or comparison services as part of a standard retail purchase.
We do not inspect and compare every available copy to determine which one might receive the highest professional grade or have the greatest potential resale value.
Requests such as "send the best copy," "send the one most likely to grade a 9.8 or 10," "send the best-centered card," "send the sharpest corners," "send the best box," or similar requests cannot be guaranteed.
We are also unable to photograph numerous copies for individual comparison or allow customers to select among multiple copies based on anticipated grading results.
Orders for multiple-copy stock-image merchandise are fulfilled from available inventory using our normal quality-control standards.
Professional Grading & Authentication
Raw and ungraded merchandise is sold as raw and ungraded merchandise.
We do not guarantee results from CGC, CBCS, PSA, BGS, SGC, CAS, AFA, VGA, or any other grading or authentication company.
A professional grading company's eventual opinion does not retroactively convert our good-faith condition estimate into a guarantee of that grade.
Similarly, a buyer's personal opinion, another retailer's opinion, a reseller's opinion, or a third-party grading company's opinion may differ from ours without either assessment necessarily being fraudulent or made in bad faith.
Do not purchase a raw item from us if your purchase depends upon it receiving a specific professional grade.
If a particular numerical grade is essential to your purchase, we strongly recommend purchasing an item that has already been professionally graded and encapsulated.
Collector Packaging
We understand that some collectors place significant value on retail packaging.
Unless a listing expressly guarantees a specific packaging condition, packaging should be evaluated using actual-item photographs whenever available.
Minor shelf wear, scuffs, scratches, corner or edge wear, small dents, creases, window marks, or similar imperfections do not automatically make otherwise new merchandise used or defective.
Customers requiring exceptionally clean, grading-quality, or otherwise specific packaging should contact us before purchasing.
We will reasonably assist when practical, but we do not guarantee packaging suitable for professional grading and do not compare every package in inventory to locate the highest-grade candidate.
Buyer Responsibility Before Purchase
Please review the complete product listing and all available photographs before ordering.
If a particular condition characteristic is essential to your purchasing decision, ask us about it before completing your order.
Please do not make assumptions regarding condition characteristics that are not expressly guaranteed in the listing.
By purchasing raw or ungraded merchandise, you acknowledge that condition assessment is subjective and that no specific professional grade is promised unless the listing expressly states otherwise.
Please review our Return & Refund Policy for additional terms concerning condition and grading expectations.
